FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL TUTOR SESSION LOOK LIKE?

We encourage our students to prepare for their sessions in advance with questions, topics and assignments they would like to discuss and need assistance with. Our virtual lessons for French cover the four main pillars of language - grammar, oral communication, reading and writing.

We use Canadian Curriculum French Immersion books in PDF format, work sheets, videos, online games and 1:1 conversation with the tutor to support the four pillars and build a strong foundation in the French language. After each tutoring session, students are sent homework sheets via email that cover the topics of the lesson.

HOW DO VIRTUAL SESSIONS WORK?

The entirety of our virtual tutoring sessions take place on Zoom. Students are sent an email beforehand. This includes a link to the Zoom meeting for them to log into the lesson at their scheduled time. Throughout the session, students are engaged with an interactive white board, PDF lesson scans, video and print media, as well as games. Students are encouraged to speak and interact with their tutor as much as possible, while receiving positive reinforcement and feedback.

A brief tutorial on the interactive use of Zoom can be provided to new students and parents at no additional cost.

WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND OF FRENCH HELP TUTORS?

All of our tutors are fluent in the language of instruction. Each tutor has completed a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a discipline relevant to their area of expertise. All French Help tutors are required to submit copies of their post-secondary transcripts and are tested on their subject area knowledge prior to joining the French Help team. A passion for education, a high level of enthusiasm, patience, and the ability to relate to students are essential qualities of our tutoring team.

WILL MY CHILD ALWAYS HAVE THE SAME TUTOR?

Our goal is to have our tutors build lasting relationships with their students, and act as personal mentors. French Help makes every effort to ensure that your child will have the same tutor for the duration of their school year and beyond. In the event that your tutor becomes unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, French Help will match your child with a suitable substitute or replacement tutor.

WHAT IS OUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Clients are required to communicate cancellations or a change in time request by phone or email at least 24 hours in advance of any booked sessions. In the event of a last-minute cancellation or no show, a $15 charge will be added to the next tutoring session.

HOW DO I BOOK A TUTORING SESSION?

Tutoring Sessions can be booked online via email, or phone. After booking, students will be sent a confirmation link with instructions for entering their Zoom session at the scheduled time and date.
